Can you tell me what it was like when you first came to America?

Uh yes I can. I came to New york um through um like, I I I take like airplane by myself i mean no no no partner with me uh and uh the as long as I came here my uncle pick me up to home. and I remember you know in china there is the uh the foggy weather and in here like so many sunshines in here as I was, so so exciting about this because i never i never s- I've never seen uh the blue skies like this kind of blue sky. Um I would think like I I'm in a different, a different world. Thats that's a fantastic experience. i i i still remember the sunshine is so i mean its a real sunshine. its not like, i cannot see it, but okay i can see the sun by the time and then i feel like so strange everythings so so uh not not familiar with me and like even though uh in chinatown like flushing there like kind of place theres many uh many chinese people but thats not exactly same. the feeling is like im in another country everything everything trying to tell me um im im not in my home town, yea...

So you said your uncle picked you up, um so do you live with your uncle now?

Um no. Um by by that time um my my aunt my uncle and uh aunt and my cousin two cousins they they came here like ten more than ten years already uh so so and emm my mom was here uh be- uhh she she want she want to take care of me so she come here first and then i come here. Um I live with my mom now. Uh i mean from that time to now and and and until now we live together and during the during the time we live together my grandparents would come and we so we uh all of us live together like four people. my mom, me, and uh my grandparents. yea...

and since you being in america um whats your most memorable moment since being here? whats you favorite memory since being in america?

I favorite actually um is uh food. haha. I like the food in here because um to tell the truth in china there's the like everything like fake. uh we we cant we cannot trust everything is original thing is healthy like is helathy food. We we we were we were never know the things the words says healthy but its not exactly healthy things. In here for example, I I went to i went to costco the first time with my with my family and uh i see like for example like the beef. the beef uh the steak is is not the same as i saw in my country. The steak in my country is just uh um like one finger the the how is like one finger is so thinn its just so thin. but in here the steak oh my god, its like two or three fingers like like that. And thats just one kind of but its the most memorable thing i just i just remember now. yea..

do you have a favorite food in america? like american food?

uh yes actually steak. my favorite food is uhh steak. I like these soo delicious um I actually i dont like the bloody i like the well done one. i know many people dont like that kind they like more more like water i mean like not water like blood inside but im scared of bllod. im scared of blood i dont want to eat that. I eat the well done thing. I really love it. i just really love it.

And so um so your mother moved here with you, um can you tell me about your mother?

yes. um my mother i think shes um shes doing everything so hard. whatever like in uh in life or work um shes shes so hard the the most important is for me shes so important i mean shes so hard like for example um she uh she i want to i want to go to aborad to study like in here um she quit her job the job she she she had the job like twenty more than twenty no atleast more than 25 years. she quit the the the good job and uh come here for me. just just for me to to to take of my my life and to support my uh like finance like she pay everything for me. She dont want me to work. She she want me to just to focus on study and then other other things she she'll uh take care of any other things. umm, yes she she like working she doing the nail she just make the nails and i know the work is so hard especially for um like my mom is not not not uh young anymore, she's like 50-something, yea, 50-something umm and she's always like shaking because of the age. I feel so sorry about that, but she always said like one thing I can, i can, i can, give her is i can i can get a good future. this kind of future not only the job but also my personal life like she want me to to be good, for every every everything, and she she feels happy at that moment. yea.

okay so actually she cannot speak english but actually she you know I'm not the person who who is shy to say my mom like, i love you. i always say that to her. we have very very good uh relationship between us like i always like hold her and kiss her. haha. i know i know it's strange it's so old to make this but I don't i dont think thats no good, thats bad thing. i always said i love you oh my god you are the best mom in the world. i always say that and i always kiss her, to hold her, to to like make anything um happy to her. im not shy to do that. so i i dont i dont think i have other things i can i cannot talk. i can talk to her everything. yea. i talk to her everything. yea. we are best friends. yea.

nice and um do you feel like there's some obligation that you have, um like a duty to . something that you are responsible to do because you mom is, she came over here?

yes. um I feel that like i feel so so sorry about about her many times like for example when i get um difficulty for study i feel so sorry about about her like she pay a lot of money for my tuition and i cannot learn as she think. But um yea what i can do i think i can i just try my best i i put all of my energy to study to actually yea im im im i feel so so sorry about this. but i tried my best as as um always i try my best for example like now um im im studying but you know my grandfather he just broke his bone and he's 80-something years old now. and my mom just take of him at home. she dont want me to take care of him at all. She just tell me to study and that's what I do, doing now. i just study and now im so sorry about her but yea. i dont think i can help her any other else, i just study yea.

just not not the speaking in speaking, but say, i see their face, i can i can see they they dont like me. like they dont like me, they dont want to talk to me sometime because of my language. i cannot explain clearly and sometime theres some uh like uh i feel umm like i just i just need to think i need to think every word is that good to tell to to talk and everything i have to think and um yea. they, i i i get this thing before especially um at the first at first uh when i learned english i was learn english in in queens college. the the language center um and i i would start like level 2 thats only level two means idont know any english at all. you know level 1 is abcd and level two is just hello and bye this kind of thing, yea. And i i learned from the very very basics thing. and after two year i i get i get over like yea, level 7. I tried to skip 1, no. i skipped 2 or 3 levels because of my uh my grade is good enough so i skipped that um my professor at there, the professor said yes thats a fast, most fast she has seen like, like this. And i feel yea im so happy and uh when I was, no when I was in um qcc um im happy, im a normal like uh like college student at that time. even though i have to pass esl yea, the esl test i spend 1 more year to take that test, and so for the result, i just pass it. im so happy about that. And now im in hunter now, oh my god, its a dream dream college. My my cousin she she was study at here for the nursing and i feel this school is the hardest school. I cannot i can never get in to this school, but oh my god, i get in ohhh. i just, when i received the offer i was soo happy you know my cousin, my cousin's mother, my aunt, she cannot believe shes jealous about this. because her daughter have been here like more than 10 years, but i just here like 4 years or something by that time, yea just 4 years, shes jealous about that, oh my god, im so happy. im so happy and my mother oh my god shes proud of me at that time. yea.
